A local advocate for the handicapped needs community support to win a wheelchair-accessible van.
To support the inaugural National Mobility Awareness Month this month, Braun Ability is giving away three 2012 Dodge-Chrysler Entervans in a campaign called Local Hero.
Columbia County schools Special Services Parent Mentor Heloise Salter recently submitted her 18-year-old son, Justin Salter, as that hero.
A student at Greenbrier High School, Salter suffers from cerebral palsy, which severely hampers him physically. Still, Salter advocates tolerance for the handicapped by speaking, with the help of a computer, to schools and civic groups throughout the area.
