An academic team from Lakeside High School competed last weekend in Washington, D.C., for the National Science Bowl, but failed to make it to the finals.

Lakeside High was among just 68 other high school teams and 44 middle school teams across the nation which took part in the three-day contest that started Friday. Only the top 16 teams moved on to the finals held Monday.

Teams of four students competed head-to-head answering science and math questions in the double-elimination tournament, according to bowl sponsor the federal Department of Energy.

High school teams also had to solve “hands-on” science problems while middle school teams raced battery-powered electric cars of their own design.
