Strictly County owner Rachel Robertson, shown in a file photo with one of the signature Columbia County blankets sold exclusively at the store, says the business will close for good on Saturday.

A staple in the Columbia County community for many years, Strictly Country Inc. is closing this weekend.

“It’s going to be so hard for me to shut that door,” said owner Rachel Robertson.

The gift shop, located on the corner of Washington and North Belair Roads in Evans, will close Saturday, she said. Robertson said she wasn’t yet ready to discuss the closure in full detail.

“It’s just got me tore up right now,” said Robertson, who is the widow of former Columbia County commissioner Vince Robertson.

After Strictly Country closes, Robertson said her son-in-law will operate his business from the building. The store is inside the former teacher’s cottage for the Evans School. That school, formerly on the opposite side of Washington Road, later became Evans High School and Evans Middle School before the site was sold for commercial development.

The stones used in part of the construction for the cottage, including its chimneys, are the same local field stones from which the Evans schools’ arch and pillars are made. Those structures were moved several years ago and now are placed behind the Columbia County Library.
