Classic City Marinas of Athens, Ga., will be offered a long-term lease for the Clarks Hill Lake site formerly known as Little River Marina, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.

The company was one of three applicants that responded to the Notice of Availability to lease the marina site issued on Jan. 3 after corps officials opted not to renew the lease of the former operator, Pam Bugg.

The criteria used by a selection team that evaluated the proposals included diversity of marina facilities/development plan, experience and background, financial capability, and a series of credit and background checks.

“Classic City Marinas’ application presented the greatest focus on modernizing and developing the marina business, the fastest implementation of key features, a substantial investment in facilities, and the most comprehensive and acceptable future development plan,” said Robert Jewell, the chief of the management and disposal branch, Corps of Engineers Real Estate Division.

The planned facilities include docks and mooring facilities, increased parking for day visitors with large boat trailer parking stalls, a modern dry storage facility with launching and recovery system for dry storage boats, and above-ground fuel storage and dispensing systems.

The corps intends to have the lease completed by April 15.

Other commercial marinas at the lake are Plum Branch Yacht Club, Raysville, Tradewinds, Savannah Lakes Village and Soap Creek. All are on corps land leased to the marina operators.

According to its Web site, Classic City Marinas also operates or is building facilities on Lake Sinclair near Milledgeville, Ga.
