Columbia County authorities are investigating a note about school violence that was written in an Evans High School bathroom stall Thursday.

“The note threatens violence in the school tomorrow (Friday),” sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said.

The message was found in the girls bathroom, Morris confirmed.

Authorities did not immediately release the identity, nor punishment, of the student who wrote the note.

Columbia County school board member Mike Sleeper clarified that the threat was at Evans, not Lakeside High as reported earlier. He added that extra sheriff’s deputies will be on hand at Evans on Friday.

“We are taking extra precautions, but students still need to come to school,” Sleeper said. “If they don’t come to school, it will be counted as an unexcused absence unless they have a valid reason, just like on any other day.”
