An autopsy conducted Monday on a man involved in an Evans shootout revealed he died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and pelvis, said Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins.
Patrick Smith, 33, died Saturday morning at Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center after being shot Friday afternoon inside a home at 627 Blanchard Road.
Smith was found passed out in the driver’s seat of a GMC Suburban on the side of Blanchard Road, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
Resident Philip Marshall, 44, was shot in the back during the same incident, said sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.
Marshall also was taken Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center with serious injuries, but his current condition is unknown. He is listed as a “no information patient,” said hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Scott.
Morris said the shooting happened after a fight between Smith and Marshall, but no more details on what started the altercation have been released.
An unloaded 9 mm handgun was recovered from the passenger seat of the SUV, according to the incident report.
Charges are pending, Morris said.
