Stevens Creek Elementary will get a celebration, and some cash, during a visit Tuesday from the Georgia state school superintendent.

John Barge is scheduled to visit the Martinez school Tuesday to honor the school for its designation as a Georgia School of Excellence, according to an announcement from the Columbia County school system.

Stevens Creek received the state award based on placement among the top 10 percent of schools in the state as measured by assessments in reading and math. It is the only school in the Augusta area to receive the award this year.

Barge is scheduled to visit between 11-11:30 a.m., according to the announcement. In addition, representatives from Georgia Natural Gas and United Health Care will accompany Barge and present the school with a check for $1,000 as part of the award.

Columbia County Superintendent

Welcome, John Barge. We used to have a Superintendent from right here in Columbia County. I wish you a better future than she has. By the way, if you want to know what makes good schools, just look at the parents, but you knew that already.
