Authorities are looking for a man and woman they say worked together to distract a Harry’s Saw Shop salesman and steal three chainsaws in December.
The salesman told deputies that he was conducting inventory at the store on Bobby Jones Expressway on Dec. 16, when he discovered three Stihl chainsaws missing.
While reviewing video surveillance footage, he saw a man and woman come into the store at about noon on Dec. 7. The woman distracted the salesman by asking about a lawn mower. In the meantime, the man took the chainsaws, worth $1,187, and loaded them into his white GMC Suburban.
The woman then said she’d go to Lowe’s to compare prices on lawn mowers, would return and left the store.
The Suburban is described as a late 1990s or early 2000s model with five-spoke chrome wheels, a hood bug guard and a luggage rack.
Anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the couple should call the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at (7060 541-2800.
