The 11th annual Cares for Kids Radiothon, which ended Saturday, with host radio station WBBQ-FM (104.3) and 96.3 KISS FM, raised $156,867 in pledges and donations for the Medical College of Georgia Children’s Medical Center.
The radiothon is one of the hospital’s largest fundraisers. Proceeds help the Children’s Medical Center provide specialized care for children and families across the Southeast.
The 2010 total was $216,779.
Among the children featured in this year's event was 15-month-old Haleigh Gay, of Martinez, who sufferes from Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome, a rare genetic condition, and is treated at the Children's Medical Center.
