A charity lunch held Monday to benefit area food banks more than doubled its proceeds over last year.

The Italian Thanksgiving Feast at the Garlic Clove in Evans raised $5,111 for the Columbia County Cares Food Pantry and the Golden Harvest Food Bank.

Last year, the event raised just $2,560, according to an email from event organizer and Columbia County Emergency and Operations Director Pam Tucker.

The event featured such traditional Italian dishes as chicken parmigiana served by local government and media personalities.
