The Columbia County Animal Services Department will hold a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic at the animal shelter at 1940 William Few Parkway on Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or until vaccinations run out.

One-year rabies vaccinations will be administered by two local veterinarians to cats and dogs 12 weeks of age or older for only $5 per pet, with a limit of three pets per owner, according to an announcement from the agency.

Pet owners will receive a certificate of vaccination and rabies tag for their inoculated pets. There are only 200 vaccinations available.

Two animals in Columbia County recently were found to be infected with rabies, and humans in contact with them have had to be treated for the virus as a result.

For information on rabies or the rabies vaccination clinic, call the staff of Columbia County Animal Services at (706) 541-4077 – Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
