A Hephzibah man was taken to the hospital Saturday after suffering from a medical condition that caused him to wreck his car and nearly collide with a Martinez hair salon.
Edward Bowman, 60, of the 3500 block of Woodlake Road, was transported by ambulance to Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center with minor injuries following the wreck, said Columbia County sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Childress.
Bowman was traveling west on Furys Ferry Road across from the Wexford subdivision at about 4:15 p.m. when he started experiencing medical problems. He lost control of his 1999 BMW 740iL, crossing over the median and east lanes of traffic, where he almost struck a truck, Childress said.
The passenger side of Bowman’s car hit two trees in front of Simply Swank Salon before it came to a rest just inches away from the front edge of the building. Wreckage from the vehicle was scattered across the salon’s front lawn.
Though Bowman’s medical issues weren’t immediately known, Childress said he complained of being dizzy before losing control of the car.
Bowman was alert and talking in the ambulance, Childress said.
