Road rage appears to be the motive in the arrest of an Evans motorist who attacked another man in the parking lot of a day-care center.
Columbia County sheriff's deputies arrested Robert Joseph Perez, 39, for simple battery on Wednesday for after he was accused of punching a man who was picking his son up from day care.
According to a police report, Perez told police that the man had cut him off in traffic, so he followed him to the Evans day care. While Perez claimed the other motorist instigated the assault, witnesses said that the man tried to avoid Perez.
Those witnesses told deputies that Perez started punching the man, and then threw the victim's keys in the bushes before leaving.
Perez was charged with simple battery, and released from the Columbia County Detention Center after posting a $1,600 bond.
