Greenbrier’s Brian Smith is resigning as head football coach.
Smith, 12-27 with the Wolfpack, said he told his players and coaches of his decision on Wednesday.
“There was no pressure or anything,” Smith said. “It’s just time for me right now to step away. I tell my kids all the time, faith, family, football – in that order. I’m going to take a breather and focus on faith and family right now.”
Smith, who said he might return to coaching down the road, said the idea of stepping aside has been “in the back of my mind for a little while.” He also said his decision is best for both him and the program.
Greenbrier (4-5) closes its season at home against Wayne County this Friday night.
