The first franchise restaurant of Papa-N-Son’s closed after just more than one year in business on Furys Ferry Road.
Thomas Hockert, an Augusta restaurateur, opened the restaurant Aug. 9, 2010, after founder Dino Dakuras looked to expand his Greek-style restaurant. Dakuras had opened the location as Dino’s Chicago Express 11 years before it changed names.
Several factors contributed to Papa-N-Son’s closing Sept. 30, including a down economy and a distracted owner, Dakuras said.
The beginning years of a small restaurant are critical for establishing a client base and building a reputation of quality service, he said.
“He treated his customers with the upmost respect. You have to admire that,” he said. “When you open a business, the amount of responsibility that comes with that is huge. It really takes getting out there, being in the store and meeting people.”
A second location of Papa-N-Son’s, 4446 Wash-ington Road in Evans, continues to thrive and serves as the company’s headquarters, he said.
Dakuras plans to wait until next year before trying another location.
The Furys Ferry restaurant will not open again.
