Lakeside tops cross country field at state meet

Lakeside High School left its mark Saturday at the GHSA Class AAAAA State Cross Country Meet in Carrollton, Ga.

The boys team finished seventh, with junior Allen Clark turning in an all-state performance, pacing the Panthers while finishing fourth in 17:04.81. For the Lady Panthers, junior and defending state champion Alyssa Hooker ran the course in 20:36.05, good for third-place and all-state accolades.

In the boys team competition, Lakeside and Greenbrier finished seventh and 10th, respectively, while Evans was 27th.

For Lakeside, Mark White (18:00.11) was 23rd, Joe Way (18:47.52) was 68th, Price Autry (18:55.18) was 78th and August (Joseph) Stapf (19:06.92) was 97th.

For Greenbrier, Jonathan Vernon (18:13.34) was tops at 36th, LaQuentin Brown (18:16.55) was 39th while Bryson Kotas (18:49.84) was 72nd, Joe Shipes (19:02.73) was 89th and Andy Caudell (19:05.25) was 94th. Evans was led by Christian Leep, who ran in 19:16.29, good for 111th.

The Lady Panthers finished 17th out of 31 teams with Hooker followed by Tamara Mistry (22:54.26) in 52nd, Sydney Spratt (25:18.53) at No. 142 while Maria Liu (26:07.76) was 166th and Olivia Goodman (26:28.71) was 176th. In 72nd was the Lady Wolfpack’s Marley Mangione (23:32.60) and Evans’ Jacey Conti (24:56.92) was 130th.

In Class AA, Harlem senior Kanez Dunn (20:31.90), the two-time Region 3-AA champion, came in 40th.
