A Columbia County Fire Rescue firefighter rushes to extinguish a blaze that destroyed the new car belonging to a Martinez business owner on Friday.

A Friday morning fire destroyed a new vehicle belonging to a Martinez business owner.

Ivan Trinidad, the owner of the Fitness Gallery on Enterprise Court, said he was storing a weedeater and a gas can in the back of his BMW X6 when he left
the business just after 11 a.m.

“I smelled gas,” Trinidad said. “I saw the fire. I didn’t have time to do anything but get out of the car.”

Firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire, but it had already destroyed the vehicle.

Trinidad said he’d purchased the vehicle less than a month before the fire.

Trinidad said he believes the gas can could have fallen over as he turned a corner coming out of the business parking lot.

Fire department officials believe that gasoline spilled onto electronics likely started the fire.
