Chemistry award

The local section of the American Chemical Society Section was honored at the 242nd ACS National Meeting in Denver, Colo., with a ChemLuminary Award for Outstanding Performance by Medium-Small Size Local Section. Member Bill Trammell of Evans received the Helen M. Free Award for Public Outreach for his 12 year efforts in communicating an understanding and appreciation of chemistry. Trammell, a 50 year ACS member, volunteered at Fort Discovery and Reed Creek Reed Creek Nature Center. He is a science coach at Lakeside High School assisting Neera Young in her chemistry classes and conducting outreach demonstrations at elementary schools, science clubs and Cub Scout Packs.
