Former Columbia County Commissioner Scott Dean likely will go to trial in December to face charges of child molestation.

During a calendar call hearing this morning in Evans, Superior Court Judge James G. Blanchard Jr. agreed to continue the case. It now is slated to be heard next month during a jury trial.

Assistant District Attorney Parks White and Dean’s defense attorney Pete Theodocion were not present at the hearing to elaborate on the reason for the continuance.

Dean faces two charges of molesting his adopted daughter. She is one of five children Dean and his wife adopted in 2008 from Guatemala. He is accused of exposing himself and inappropriately touching the girl.

Initially indicted on the charges in February, he pled not guilty.

A Columbia County grand jury re-indicted Dean on Sept. 28 on the same charges, but adjusted dates and the nature of one of the charges, according to court documents.

The original indictment states the activity occurred between Sept. 1, 2008, to Sept. 11, 2010. The new indictment extends that time period to Oct. 11, 2010.

Dean pled not guilty again on Oct. 21.
