Case of rabid dog confirmed near Grovetown

The Columbia County Health Department has confirmed that a dog hit by a car earlier this month near Grovetown has tested positive for rabies.

The dog, a black male Labrador retriever, was struck by a Columbia County school bus on Oct. 17 and then tended to by nearby residents, according to a press release from Columbia County Emergency and Operations Division Director Pam Tucker.

The dog tested positive for rabies on Oct. 20, and those residents wh attended the dog are being treated for the disease, the notice said, and others who are known to have had contact with the dog are being notified by the health department.

Any others who might have had contact with the dog are asked to call Andrea Frazier at the Columbia County Health Department at (706) 868-3330.
