Pedestrian hospitalized after being hit by car

Posted: October 20, 2011 - 9:39pm  |  Updated: October 21, 2011 - 5:43pm

A Martinez woman remains hospitalized this morning after being hit by a car while walking her dog Thursday evening.

Sherryl Christine Gaffney, 46, of Old Trail Road, is listed in fair condition at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, said hospital spokeswoman Toni Baker.

Just before 6 p.m., Gaffney was walking west with her dog next to a curb on Old Trail Road East, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s office accident report.

A westbound Dodge Neon, driven by 22-year-old Jeannen Renee Hobbs of Fairfax Street in Martinez, hit Gaffney. She was thrown onto the car windshield, then onto the road, according to the report. The dog was not injured.

Gaffney was deemed at-fault for the wreck because she was walking the wrong way; with traffic, not against it.
