Two Lakeside High School students today were named to the Student Advisory Council of Georgia Superintendent John Barge.
Varun Anand and Elijah Scott were chosen along with 48 other students throughout the state to sit on the council this school year. More than 700 high school students applied for seats on the council.
As members of the council, Anand and Scott will meet twice this school year with the Barge and the state Department of Education to advise on education policies and issues.
"The Student Advisory Council is an invaluable resource to the leadership of the Georgia Department of Education," Barge said in a press release. "This group will provide a unique perspective on how state policies are working in the classroom and allow me the opportunity to communicate directly with students in schools throughout Georgia."
The first meeting of the council will be held Nov. 1 in Atlanta.
