It’s common for school bus drivers to have encounters with deer, especially during the winter months.
“It’s not a daily event, but a weekly event,” Columbia County School System Transportation Director Dewayne
Porter said of bus drivers seeing and often having to brake to avoid hitting deer in the roadways, especially in the early-morning hours.
“We have 196 buses on the road, we traveled 2.9 million miles (a year). Considering that many miles, we are going to have deer (encounters).”
Two of those encounters last week
resulted in school bus wrecks.
