More than 60 percent of Georgia’s children are cared for outside the home for at least six hours a day, so the choice of proper care is vital for child development.

Stephanie Black, founding chairwoman of the governing board of the Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students, emphasized the need for scrutiny of child care during a recent seminar for those involved in juvenile justice and child advocacy.

Woman who accused Code Compliance officer on network morning show   07/11/12 - 10:34am

 

A Martinez woman who says a Columbia County Code Compliance officer entered her home without permission is gaining national attention since the incident.

Erica Masters, who captured former Code Compliance Officer Jimmy Vowell on surveillance video as he walked through her front door July 2 while she slept, will explain what happened on NBC’s The Today Show Wednesday morning.

Columbia County deputies getting Dodge Chargers   10/30/11 - 8:56pm

 

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is adding some American muscle to its fleet.

County commissioners are likely to approve the purchase of 21 new Dodge Charger Enforcer pursuit vehicles at their meeting Tuesday, said County Emergency and Operations Director Pam Tucker.

At a cost of nearly $27,000 each, for a total of $560,784, the Chargers will be used to replace vehicles taken out of service because of high mileage, age, wrecks or maintenance issues.

Two arrested in rash of tractor trailer burglaries   10/24/11 - 9:05am

 

Columbia County investigators likely put an end to a rash of truck break-ins at truck stops and hotels along Interstate 20 with the arrest of two Augusta men.

James Gary Brown, 46, of Kevin Drive, and Troy Goodman, 33, of Rutledge Drive, were charged with two counts of burglary, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and obstruction of police.

Since late August, numerous commerical truck drivers told police their cargo trailers were broken into while they were parked at hotels or truck stops near I-20.
