Groping suspect charged with assaulting sheriff's deputy   12/26/12 - 11:27am

A Grovetown man punched a Co­lum­bia County sheriff’s deputy in the Evans Wal-Mart parking lot, then crashed into a second officer’s vehicle while fleeing the store early Sunday, authorities said.

Javantroi Perez Walden, 34, who since July has been charged with groping at least four women at Wal-Marts and a teenager at a Sonic, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and other charges.

Moving mail processing would affect Columbia County deliveries   12/09/11 - 9:57am

A feasibility study completed by the U.S. Postal Service supports discontinuing mail-processing operations at Augusta’s main branch, the postal service has announced.

According to the postal service, local mail - including all mail from Columbia County's five post offices - would be sent to Macon, Ga., or Columbia to be sorted and posted to their destinations.

The consolidation would not close Aug­usta’s main post office branch, but it would affect 110 jobs and make the standard delivery time two to three days.
