Trading only a few jabs before a conservative audience in Evans, four Republicans seeking to take on 12th Dis­trict U.S. Rep. John Barrow in November tried to distinguish themselves from one another Saturday.

Evans attorney Wright McLeod accused Augusta businessman Rick Allen of “benefiting from stimulus funding” used for one of his construction projects.

The subject of a North Augusta manhunt, who also is wanted in Columbia County, was arrested Monday in Augusta.
Brandon Wesley Tucker, 25, of Augusta, was arrested by Richmond County sheriff’s deputies around 9:50 a.m. at 3027 Washington Road.
Tucker crawled out of a North Augusta police cruiser window after his arrest for shoplifting Dec. 17 at the Knox Avenue Walmart, according to previous reports.

Wright McLeod, 12th District congressional candidate

Third GOP candidate enters 12th District congressional race   10/25/11 - 2:17pm

Augusta lawyer Wright McLeod announced today his plan to seek the 12th U.S. Congressional district seat, bringing the Augusta-area field of official contenders for the redrawn district to three.

A retired Navy commander who flew F-14 Tomcat missions for Operation Desert Storm, McLeod today is a real estate lawyer based in Columbia County involved with management of homeowner associations.

“I refuse to accept the premise that my generation is going to turn over to our children a country that is worse off than what was given to us,” McLeod said.
