Gordon Park Speedway played host to the Southern Outlaw Super Street Series on Saturday, attracting some of the premiere Super Street drivers in the Southeast.

Local driver Jimmy Maness started on the pole and led every lap until he was spun out on the last lap. Troy Talley grabbed the lead at the checkered flag and won the race.

Local athletes do well at Games 05/27/12 - 12:11am

Columbia County Special Olympians competed in the Summer Special Olympics Games at Emory University May 18-20. The 15 athletes represented Evans Middle School, Evans High School, Greenbrier Middle School, Greenbrier High School, Lakeside High School and one homeschooled.

Events included running, swimming, soccer and tennis.

The home-schooled athlete was Nathan Lechner, competing in the 25-meter freestyle (silver medal) and 25 backstroke (sixth).

Hayden's claims gymanstics titles 04/08/12 - 12:11am

Hayden’s Gymnastics Level 7 team from Evans competed at the Gasparilla Classic meet in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Feb. 24-26, and the Courtney Kupets Invitational in Savannah, Ga., on March 9-11, finishing first both times.

At the Gasparilla Meet, Hayden’s squared off against teams from throughout the U.S., the Bahamas, Canada, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela, finishing first with a score of 113.725.
