Erin Plaster never got the impression that the students walking the halls at Grovetown High School noticed her.

Plaster learned otherwise Friday.

The senior was crowned the school's homecoming queen Friday night at halftime of the football team's victory over Westside.

"I was shaking," Plaster said. "I was afraid if they told me to walk, I was going to fall."

Plaster was one of 10 candidates for the honor, lining up alongside fellow members of the homecoming court while waiting for the announcement over the loudspeaker.

When Jahvon Hardrick crossed the goal line with just 47 seconds left Thursday night, Greenbrier grabbed the lead in a back-and-forth affair with Evans.

Jamal Thompkins, Thomas Brown and the rest of the Wolfpack defense made sure that lead would hold up.

A pair of late sacks by Thompkins and a closing interception by Brown capped off a 21-17 victory for the road team in the matchup between Columbia County and Region 2-AAAA North rivals.

Before Tuesday's Columbia County Commission meeting, Commissioner Ron Thigpen predicted that a proposal to bring a BMX park to the county would be tabled for further study.

On the rare occasion when Jennifer Purucker's game goes slightly awry, Greenbrier High School's volleyball squad doesn't suffer.

That's because the junior middle hitter competes at a high level even on a day when she's a little off.

"She has great athletic ability, but she's very smart," Wolfpack head coach Debbie Born said. "When she's failing physically, she'll outsmart you. That's her biggest asset."
