Colette Cassedy knows that coaches often offer sound bites about their team that might not be 100 percent accurate.

She admits her claim that her Evans High School softball team's success this season has been a "joint effort" sounds like that same kind of coach speak.

But she's quick to note that, this year, nobody can doubt how much each player has contributed.

"I'm not just saying it because it sounds good," Cassedy said. "Legitimately, from the bottom of my heart, it's been a joint effort. ... Every game, someone different steps up."

Volleyball: Greenbrier (27-5) vs. Johns Creek (47-9)

In the opening round of AAAA state volleyball playoffs, Greenbrier High School took down an opponent, Hiram, with a 39-6 record.

While Johns Creek has a similar winning percentage, there’s no doubt that its body of work proves the Wolfpack face a much stiffer challenge in Round 2.

The Gladiators are ranked No. 4 in the state and took down No. 6 Sequoyah in the opening round. They made the state Final Four last year.

It's true that this Greenbrier High School softball team is the first in program history not to win its region.

Evans ended that long-held streak with its 6-0 victory over the Wolfpack on Sept. 24 at South Effingham in the Region 2-AAAA Tournament.

While it's significant, simply pointing out that Greenbrier lost its region tournament for the first time doesn't do justice to what this Wolfpack team has accomplished. Nor does it give proper credit to Evans.

As Game 2 of Wednesday’s Class AAAA state softball playoff opener entered the bottom of the third inning, Tiffany Sellers was feeling fairly relaxed.The senior had shut out visiting Lee County in Game 1, and she and her Evans teammates led the nightcap 8-0.
