The man accused of driving the vehicle that killed a Martinez teenager a week ago has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Lucky Wade Jackson, 43, of the 300 block of Buxton Lane in Evans, turned himself in to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning and was charged in the Sept. 12 crash that killed 19-year-old Jordan White of Martinez, said Capt. Steve Morris.

Early voting in Columbia County for the Aug. 21 runoff will begin Monday at the Board of Elections office in Evans.

Voters will be asked to settle races for the Republican nomination for the 12th District seat to the United States House of Representatives, and to the non-partisan District 1 seat for the Columbia County Board of Education.

Voting will take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Columbia County Board of Elections office at 500 Faircloth Drive, Building E, in Evans, said Columbia County Registration Coordinator Nancy Gay.

Evans’ Eunice Yi held off a charge from Katelyn Dambaugh to win the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea on the first hole of sudden death in Charleston, S.C.

Yi shot 1-under-par 70 on Wednesday to finish at 5-under 137 with Dambaugh, who closed with 64 at Charleston Country Club.

Strom Thurmond High’s McKenzie Talbert tied for fifth at 71-73-144 while Aiken’s Taylor Ann Dodd shot 72-74–146.

Bryce Howell, of Blythewood, S.C., won the boys title. He shot 69-68–137 to beat four players by a shot.

A couple of new captains will be at the helm of two Columbia County elementary schools when classes resume next week.

Stephanie Reese is the new principal of Brookwood Elementary, and Laura Hughes is the new principal at North Columbia Elementary.

Reese, an educator for 20 years, takes over for the only principal Brookwood has had since its 1988 opening.

Brenda Jones, a more than 40-year veteran of Columbia County schools, retired in the spring. Superintendent Charles Nagle called her “an icon.”

Reese said she’s up to the challenge.
