Although it’s set nearly a century ago, Thoroughly Modern Millie has timeless qualities.
It’s about a young woman’s quest to escape the small town and find life and love in the backdrop of the 1920s with lots of song and dance, according to director Laura Butler.
“It’s very tongue-in-cheek. There are plot twists at the end. It’s a fun and quirky show,” said Butler of the play, which the Augusta Junior Players will stage at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at Greenbrier High School.
For Kaitlyn Gilmore, who plays Millie, the show is bittersweet.
